MTB_6 Fonte Férrea, São Brás de Alportel, Benafim, Algarve

This time we start from Fonte Férrea, a fantastic natural leisure park, suitable for walking/hiking and bike park in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, on very technical and somehow difficult tracks until we reach the Menta watchpoint. We then start descending on much rolling tracks until we cross the asphalt on the municipal road between Barranco do Velho and Javali to enter again tougher and more technical tracks that will take us to the famous Via Algarviana, GR13, Great Pedestrian Route, which crosses the entire Algarve inland, from Alcoutim, on the border with Spain, to Cabo de São Vicente, in the extreme west, to reach Barranco do Velho.

There we will continue through very interesting tracks of the Via algarviana, next to the Cortelha motocross track we will leave Gr13 and go for a descent on very fast tracks and with stunning views until the small village of Portela do Barranco. After about 2 kms on asphalt we take the northwest cap towards Malhão, at about 500 m altitude, famous for the arrival of one of the queen stages of the tour of the algarve by bicycle, a competition included in the European Tour and also known for the buddhist temple that exists there, and then we definitely start the return to Benafim with a very sharp descent with a lot of loose stone and quite technical, before going uphill again to the "Moinhos da Pena", 2 old windmills at a viewpoint with a stunning view to the south and where on the cleanest days you can see the sea, right in the center of the protected landscape of the Rocha da Pena natural park, so we can quietly start the last descent to the ATTE facilities right in the center of Benafim.
